To help change that, Grantmakers for Southern Progress traveled across Georgia and South Carolina to highlight the work of 15 extraordinary community leaders advancing education, food justice, environmental stewardship and cultural arts.

Our team designed and facilitated a day-long family gathering centered on matriarchy, displacement, and envisioning the Jackson family's future, while leading pre-production planning and on-site videography. We then guided months of post-production to produce the final 18-minute documentary.
Today, the Black Emergence documentary is a tool in Instituto's work organizing families around land, belonging and intergenerational leadership.

Presented by Black River Life in partnership with the Charlotta Bass Journalism and Justice Lab at USC Annenberg and the Media 2070 Project.
Our friends at the Media 2070 Project invited Black River Life to participate in Black Future Newsstand Presents: Riot to Repair, a soundscape exhibition that premiered in Los Angeles in 2025 and welcomed more than 100 attendees over two days.
Moving from quiet contemplation to defiant resistance and, ultimately, glimpses of a liberated future—the exhibition brought together media technologists, journalists, students, artists, and funders through five immersive installations exploring the power of reparative media, art and technology.
